Mysteries?
This portion of the Beard Genealogy web page is devoted to unanswered
questions and unnamed photos. If you have information that could
help shed any light on any of these mysteries, please contact me at
beardd@ohio.edu. If you have questions or pictures of related in
some way to the Beards that came to thrive in Augusta County, Virginia,
please contact me at beardd@ohio.edu.
Connection to other Beard families.
There are other settlers of Augusta County with the last name Beard.
What their possible connection is to the descendants of Edward
Beard is unkown to me beyond what I have already listed.
Edward Beard's sons, David and Samuel, and daughters Mary and
Elizabeth
I do not know who, if any, are the descendants of David and Samuel
-- two of Edward Beard's sons.
Also, not much is known about Mary Beard-Henderson and Elizabeth
Beard-Craig who moved to Kentucky with their husbands.
Are the Beards of Irish or Scottish descent?
Evidence seems to indicate that Edward Beard was essentially Scottish.
It is likely that he lived in the northern Ireland area known as
Ulster for a time, but those that did so were frequently still looked
upon as being Scottish and not Irish.
Beard or Baird or Bayrd?
It was common in the past for names to be spelled the way the writer
heard them. This resulted in some phonic variations in the way the
name appears in older documents. This does not neccesarily mean
that the Beard and Baird family lines are any more connected than the
Beard and Wallace familly lines.
