Elizabeth Annabelle Shanks -Beard -Tisdall (1868-1947)


Elizabeth Annabelle "Lizzie" Shanks was born on February 2, 1868 as the third child  to her father, a farmer, Leetasse Delemo "Lee" Shanks (b. June 8, 1831, d. October 5, 1919) and her mother  Martha Bright (b. Aug. 31, 1841, d. June 5, 1920) in Williamsville, Bath County, Virginia. 

According to information provided by Don Bright and posted in the Brigtht-L Archives at RootsWeb.com, on page 392 of the book "Marriage notices from extant issues of the 'Rockingham Register', Harrisonburg, VA 1822-1870" (Author is Dorothy A. Boyd-Rush, Ph. D., Heritage Books, Inc.) he reads the following:
"SHANK: On the 20th ult., near Green Valley, at the residence of the
 bride's father by Rev. Leopold Lenz, Mr. L. D. SHANK and Miss Martha A.,
 Daughter of Peter Bright, all of Bath county. Rockingham Register and
 Advertiser, 14 March 1862 (Friday), p3, c.2."

 p.5 20 Feb 1862 Leetasse D. Shanks married Martha Ann Bright. Groom: age
 31, single, b. Rockbridge, lives Bath, son of J.H. & J.A. Shank, farmer.
 Bride: age 20, single, b. Augusta, lives Bath, dau. of Peter & E. Bright.
 Married by Leopold Lenz.

On Oct. 7, 1897, at the age of 29, Lizzie married Samuel W. Beard, aged 51, with which she bore one child, a son, Delemo Leetassa Beard.

She passed away at the age of 78 and is buried in Augusta County, Virginia.
